hARvesTing
OCTOBER 17, 2003 through NOVEMBER 24, 2003

PRESS RELEASE

Three Bardstown Galleries hARvesT Kentucky Talent:  While the autumn leaves bring new color to the landscape, Bardstown Art Gallery, Nazareth Arts and Sutherland Gallery will collaboratively harvest Kentucky talent during October and November.

Martin and Cindy Rollins have been a recognized part of the art scene for many years.  With his BFA from the Louisville School of Art and MFA from University of Cincinnati, Martin has taught at the University of Cincinnati, the University of Louisville and the Governor's School for the Arts.  Martin now serves as Associate Education Curator at The Speed Art Museum in Louisville and paints familiar neighborhood scenes using artist crayon and/or oil pastels on paper.  Attorney and Louisville Metro Master Commissioner Cindy works in both oils and watercolors.  Her small-scale landscapes enable the viewer to imagine a pristine vista devoid of distracting debris or any sign that potential development could dramatically alter forever the view.  Martin, on the other hand, incorporates a representational interpretation of cityscapes and interiors or vistas and marshes.  He states, "I am something of a reactionary in much of my artwork, in that much of it is generated in reaction to the twin cancers of ugliness and superficiality that I see in the manmade world we are creating."
