Nancy Ackerly Steinson
SCULPTURE, Jan/Feb 2000, vol. 19, no. 1: Mark Daniel Cohen, New York City-based art critic and sculptor, wrote of an exhibition in NYC that in which "Novatio" was exhibited: "Nancy Steinson has taken on the challenge of rendering the curved space of science more directly and without ambiguity." Cohen, continued, "These [Nancy's sculptures in an exhibition entitled "Riemannian Variations" ] are very likely the most successful examples yet created in sculpture of impossible forms, forms that reflect the nature of the space that science tells us we occupy yet cannot see." Monroe Denton, ibid, wrote: "Novatio (1997), at 198 cm, was the tallest piece and thus the focus of the installation. It scales handsomely to the human body, although a smaller one than mine." Said exhibition entitled "20th Century Steel Sculpture" opened at the Beadleston Gallery, 724 Fifth Avenue 2 March 2000. Nancy was one of nineteen 20th century sculptors invited.
